Rick has led publications from start-ups to established brands, including as Digital Publisher for public radio’s flagship international news program “The World” and the award-winning digital news startup GlobalPost. A founding executive at GlobalPost, he served as Senior Vice President of Strategy, Marketing and Communications overseeing audience development efforts that yielded more that 5 million users a month on high quality international reporting that received every major award in journalism, including The Peabody Award, The Polk Award, The RFK Award, The Overseas Press Club Award, and several Edward R. Murrow Awards.
He helped facilitate the acquisition of GlobalPost by Public Radio International (PRI) in 2015 and became PRI’s VP of Strategy and Business Development. At PRI, Rick was responsible for digital strategy and business development activities that supported PRI’s strategic vision and business objectives, expanded PRI’s impact, and increased revenue and audience reach. He oversaw the product/tech team and was a key driver of PRI’s ongoing digital and brand transformation, identifying and inspiring change makers, building cross-functional teams, defining priorities and delivering against goals.
Prior to GlobalPost, Rick was Director of Communications and Interactive for Public Affairs Television, the company that produced Bill Moyers’ series and documentaries for PBS. He headed up communications and digital strategy for the Emmy-winning weekly newsmagazine "Now on PBS,” oversaw the website for “Bill Moyers Journal,” and oversaw communications for PBS's acclaimed documentary series "Frontline." Rick also served as VP of Sales and Marketing for Frontline Communications Corp., a Nasdaq-listed technology company and has been quoted often in national media, including in The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, The Daily News, and The Hollywood Reporter, among others.
